How to Delete a WhatsApp Group
Step 1: Leave the Group
Before you can delete a WhatsApp group, you need to leave it. The process is below:
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Navigate to the Chats tab where all your messages are.
- Find the group you want to delete.
- Click on the group to open the chat.
- At the top right corner, you will see three vertical dots (⋮). Open the menu by clicking the dots.
- Click on Group Info from the menu.
- Scroll down and Click Exit Group.
- Confirm your decision by clicking Exit again in the pop-up.
Step 2: Delete the Group
Now that you have exited the group, you can proceed to delete it.
- Go back to your Chats tab(on WhatsApp) if you’re not already there.
- Find the same group that you exited.
- Long press the group chat to select it.
- click on the trash can icon located t the top of the screen.
- A confirmation message will appear, asking if you want to delete the group.
- Select Delete Group to confirm.

Important Notes
- Group Admins: If you want to permanently delete the group for all its members as an administrator, you need to first remove each member from the group independently before following the steps above.
- Backup: Before deleting the group, ensure that you back up all of your important messages or media as this action cannot be undone.
- New Admin: If you only exit the group without deleting it, WhatsApp will automatically replace an admin with one of the remaining members.
